Responsive Design

One of the most important areas in web design & development is how your website responds to the screen size it is being viewed on. Years ago this would never have been considered as all web content was viewed on a desktop screen. Now, more than 50% of online traffic comes from mobile devices – and this number is set to rise further. As you can see, it is absolutely vital that websites are compatible on desktop and mobile.

If you have a website which was first created pre-mobile era, it may yet lack the code which makes a site responsive. Even more recent websites require some tweaks to make content sensibly viewable across all devices. We have to consider tablets such as iPads and whether or not these portable devices are currently in portrait or landscape view.

As a website owner, you should view your content on as many devices as possible to ensure everything sits correctly. Ask friends or family how easily they can view the website on varying devices so you can cater for those, too. Try viewing the big brand websites like Apple, Amazon or Google to learn how they display content on mobile. You will soon learn how they prioritise which content is seen first when on a mobile device.
